DEI — Didn’t Earn It

DEI — DIDN’T EARN IT.

A man walked toward the cross carrying six heavy suitcases.

“Good deeds.”

“Work harder.”

“Behave better.”

“Give more.”

“Church more.”

“Clean myself up.”

He thought if he brought enough, maybe God would accept him.

But the closer he got, the more he realized he couldn’t carry his way into righteousness.

So he knelt down and set the bags beside him.

His hands were finally empty.

That’s where this hits home for me.

I didn’t earn my right standing with God. Jesus made the way through His death and resurrection. I receive that gift through faith in Him.

There’s nothing wrong with working hard, helping people, or going to church. But none of those things can buy what Jesus gave.

Get Right: Trust Jesus. Let His grace change your heart.

Do Right: Live out that grace. Own your mistakes. Keep your word. Love your neighbor. Help somebody.

We don’t do good to make God owe us. We do good because we’ve received a love we could never repay.

Lay down the bags. Follow Jesus.
